Why The Two-Step Paint System?

Your 1990 BMW 4-SERIES is painted at the factory with a high quality basecoat/clearcoat system. This two-step paint system consists of step one, the basecoat, which is your car’s actual color, and step two, the clearcoat, the specially formulated clear paint that protects the base color and provides the luster and deep shine your vehicle came with when new. AutomotiveTouchup products faithfully reproduce your vehicle manufacturer’s basecoat/clearcoat system.

My son had a raccoon incident and we had to replace the whole bumper cover on a 1990 BMW 525I (Delphin Gray, 183). I was hesitant to do the job because of bad experiences with the spray paint you get from a home center. This paint isn't anything like that; it goes on smooth and dries fast. I used a whole can to put 3 coats of base on. Don’t panic at what it looks like the clear coat is where the magic happens. After applying the clear coats the finish was unbelievable. The paint color was a perfect match. I did make a mistake (because I'm cheap). As per the instructions the base coat should be 2 or more light coats and the clear should be 3 or 4 wet coats. I only ordered enough clear to do 2 nice coats, it still looks perfect. Next time I'll be sure to order more clear than base. I’m very happy and would use Automotive Touchup again. Thanks.
