Why The Two-Step Paint System?

Your 1999 Ford Excursion is painted at the factory with a high quality basecoat/clearcoat system. This two-step paint system consists of step one, the basecoat, which is your car’s actual color, and step two, the clearcoat, the specially formulated clear paint that protects the base color and provides the luster and deep shine your vehicle came with when new. AutomotiveTouchup products faithfully reproduce your vehicle manufacturer’s basecoat/clearcoat system.

Here's what our customers are saying about our Touch Up Paint:

Brandon, owner of a 2000 Ford Taurus from Alvin, TX

My name is Brandon from Alvin, Tx. I bought a pint of the toreador red metallic touchup paint, and a quart of clear, about a month ago to complete a door restoration for my 2000 Taurus. Some delays kept me from getting it done, but door was officially painted as of 7/20 at 3 pm. The next day I was told I could pick it up. Initial impressions were that the color looked pretty good, but was a bit darker than mine (as expected from aging... that's real hard to match). The paint also felt a bit loose, but not soft or anything. But I left an impression with my fingernail. It had a few knocks around the edges too. I was a little concerned it wasn't going to stay on very well. However.... 7/23, today, and the paint is hardened up nicely and even dulled a bit in color. So this was a mistake made by myself and my painter, not yours, as we had underestimated the set time. Plus he was not familiar with using a premixed, ready-to-spray formula (said he only used 2 part catalyst mix... I didn't know). But I didn't pay much to have it done, and he did his best. Overall, it came out really well sans a few marks here and there where you can't really even see. So I will be needing a small touch-up pen soon to patch up the few little marks around the bottom of the door (don't want a peel to start happening), but all in all, I am quite pleased with how it came out. Even the slight orange hue that happens as this toreador red ages came out today when I last checked on the door. So I guess it just takes it about 2-3 good days to set properly. Thanks for a good color match, as this color is hard to find parts for in a salvage yard. My only gripe is that there wasn't any mention on the can for the length of time needed for it to set... or maybe we just missed it? Anyway, a mention about that on the can would be great in case anyone else new to this has this issue in the future. Thanks again! [ATU Note: I'm glad this worked out for you, too much material will make it take longer to set. Also higher air pressure and lighter coats will make the paint spray lighter in color and would help with the cure time too.]

Brian, owner of a 2000 Ford Taurus from New Jersey

I purchased a 2000 Ford Taurus which had already been repainted several years ago. The car was in great condition with the exception of the rear trunk lid which had some paint peeled off apparently due to improper preparation. It also had several peeling spots of top color coat when the detailer buffed off some decals. I purchased the primer, top coat, clear coat, prep sol and tack cloth from AutomotiveTouchup watched the instructional videos and followed the directions and after hand buffing with light compound it looked pretty good but not absolutely perfect (though probably perfect to someone who didn't know it was redone). I purchased a chrome license plate frame to dress it up a bit and it looked perfect. I was pretty amazed that the color was a perfect match!
