When replacing a couple of parts on a Ranger and Mustang, I started looking for auto paint suppliers and came across Automotive Touch Up. Since they're getting the paint code used on the car, I figured it'd be a pretty close match. This paint is perfect... EXACT match, even the metallic flake. My first time trying to do an automotive finish, so it took some experimentation. My paint is gray metal flake and to get the primer completely covered it took quite a bit of paint, four coats, so it was pretty grainy, so attempting to go directly to a clear coat was not an option. I found that a light sanding with 1,000 grit wet or dry sandpaper and some water helped quite a bit between coats. I used a 3,000 grit hook and loop wet sanding pad on the final finish before clearcoating. I also needed to use about twice the clear coat I had anticipated using to match the optical depth of the factory finish. Finally, my basecoat was a touch cooler gray than the original paint, so I used a small amount of champagne colored metalflake, Duplicolor, before the final light finish coat to get a really good match over a large area. I'm at the point where I'm about to do the final polish, but looking at it in the shade, even with the mismatched gloss, really impresses me. One other thing. 2010 Mustangs have an aluminum hood. So what started out as an assumption on my part that I'd be doing about a square foot total along the front edge worked out to being half of the hood once I got all of the "not quit sticking to the body" original pain removed, put it turned out looking damn nice! I purchased unpainted poly urethane headlight splitters on purpose, so I can save the money and know I would get a quality paint finish. I then purchased the painting materials from Automotive Touchup without reservation. I am a skilled DIYer and have painted lacquer to enamel followed up with clear coat. I was eager to follow the prep work directions, then prime the splitters. Wet sand the splitters and then sprayed the base coat with the aerosol spray can trigger and it felt like I was spraying with an air compressor style paint sprayer...very professional fell. I then applied the 3 clear coat layers after 3 layers of base coat. Top notch products.

I must admit, I was a little skeptical at first, however I did the test spray and the match was perfect. I used the color and clear coat cans for a grille, a valance, and a couple under hood parts on a show car. Although I had the luxury of spraying them in my booth, this could have easily been done in a garage. The finished product was more than I expected, after letting them cure I didn't even have to buff, the paint and clear laid down nicely. Spend some time on the prep, follow the directions, and you should have no issues. Highly recommend these products!!

The paint is great. The painter...not so great! Color is a perfect match but masking tape ridges show at the edges due to multiple layers of base coat and clear coat. This makes a higher ridge than the original paint. Have hand sanded with 400, 1000,1400 and 2000 wet sandpaper. Works great but the sanding removes some of the original paint also so not able to properly blend the new and old to be unseen. The problem with mine is these are fairly large areas, Perhaps 15" x 15" thus easily seen. Touch up of simple nicks works perfectly. So, no problems at all with Automotive Touchup! [ATU's Npte: This is why I never recommend to tape off a small square. Please see this video http://www.automotivetouchup.com/how-to-videos/how-to-blend-automotive-paint/ to see why.

The color match is perfect! Can not tell the difference between the original and yours! My only problem is lack of experience. I used the pens (color and clear coat) but I can see the strokes and ridges where I brushed it on. Probably too thick but the pen does not have very good control of the flow(my experience). The paint dries very quickly so when I went back over it to smooth it out it just made it worse. Maybe a spray would be better but these are quite small areas to be covered. I can sand it out and try again. Anyway your product is in no way to blame and the match is very excellent!(Grabber Blue paint color)
