Why The Two-Step Paint System?

Your 2001 Rolls Royce Silver Seraph is painted at the factory with a high quality basecoat/clearcoat system. This two-step paint system consists of step one, the basecoat, which is your car’s actual color, and step two, the clearcoat, the specially formulated clear paint that protects the base color and provides the luster and deep shine your vehicle came with when new. AutomotiveTouchup products faithfully reproduce your vehicle manufacturer’s basecoat/clearcoat system.

First question you might ask is why attempt a repair on a Rolls Royce. Why not let the dealer repair. First you have to take out a second mortgage to pay for repairs like this. So, after reading everything on the web I was convinced I could, and I did. It started out as a couple of chips and a few scratches in the rear bumper. I first ordered touch up paint (bottle) and a kit from England. Nice, but color was off. Undaunted, I ordered the base coat and clear coat here. I suggest you also order the spray handle if you hands are not very steady. My first dilemma was whether to only repaint about a 1-2 area foot (the chips and scratches were contained in about a 3 inch square) or the whole bumper. Every website assumes you will paint the whole bumper. I did the former making sure the new base coat blended perfectly. Same with clear coat. Granted, I probably should paint the whole bumper. If this does not last, I will. At age 73, it doesn’t have to last all that long anyway. After several days, I polished it. The result was perfect. I could not be happier. The instructions on this website are very good. But videos on the web are numerous and good. You need both. Take your time, use the proper sandpaper, polish remover, tack cloth, buffing compound and a variable speed buffer. OTHER SUGGESTIONS. Mask off the damaged area and prime only this part. Let it dry overnight,(not just 30 minutes), remove tape, sand smooth, and apply base and clear coat. Wait several days to polish. Good luck.
