CLEAR COAT IS REQUIRED WITH THIS PAINT

To ensure your paint repair blends in perfectly, you'll need to apply a clear coat over the color coat. While AutomotiveTouchup paint products are custom mixed to perfectly match the color of your 1997 Subaru L-Series, we use the same basecoat/clearcoat system as your factory specs. You can add a clear coat to your order on the next step. Click here for Subaru paint code location diagrams and label examples.

Why The Two-Step Paint System?

Your 1997 Subaru L-Series is painted at the factory with a high quality basecoat/clearcoat system. This two-step paint system consists of step one, the basecoat, which is your car’s actual color, and step two, the clearcoat, the specially formulated clear paint that protects the base color and provides the luster and deep shine your vehicle came with when new. AutomotiveTouchup products faithfully reproduce your vehicle manufacturer’s basecoat/clearcoat system.

Here's what our customers are saying about our Touch Up Paint:

Steven F, owner of a 1998 Subaru Outback from Arden Hills, MN

I have two Subarus, 1998 and 1995. Every spring I have to sand down the rusty areas and repaint, otherwise they would be full of rusty holes and probably by this point undriveable. I used to try to use the paint you find in auto parts store, and it did not match. With your paint I feel as if I can keep driving these cars and feel good about how they look. I'm just glad I found your site and your paint.

Roger V, owner of a 1998 Subaru Legacy from Leavenworth, WA

Hi! At first the paint appeared to be more of a cream appearance than the stock finish. Different light from the sun was messing with Me a little bit...there is a small difference, but colors!! They will mess with You. With a hvlp gun I was able to shoot the left fender (with black primer) both bumpers, half of the left rear quarter panel, and some touch up.....I still have a little bit left. Half the clear coat is left. I checked the color code (belatedly, I admit) and it is Subaru 230, exactly what is on the can. This is with a pint of premix! I'm used to buying a quart of paint for such a project. In conclusion, I will buy another pint to do the hood and further touchups. Thanks, Roger
